BINGO

There was a white robed priestess and they coaxed me to the altar and they said “THIS IS YOUR BAPTISM. YOU ARE CLEANSED OF YOUR PRIVILEGE. BEYOND MAN, BEYOND WHITE, YOU HAVE RASA’D YOUR TABULA. GO FORTH, MY BABE, AND FIND YOUR NEW SELF FREE FROM YOUR CONTEXT.”

BINGO is an explosive multi-genre short film that plays with concepts of “authentic” Queerness, camp, gatekeeping, and Queer iconography in the American cultural context. A flurry of dreamy scenes put the performers in relation to gendered cultural stereotypes against the tangled backdrop of a shifting and untrustworthy world in which Queer identity has hard and fast boundaries. Will they achieve Queer BINGO? What happens if they do?

This work premiered as a live performance in May 2018 at the performance collage “Women’s Work” curated by Kristi Faulkner and was adapted to film with collaborators collaborators Gold House Media (Video Production) and Ben Willis (Animation). The film premiered in September 2022.
